3rd ODI between India & Australia was played in Ranchi. India won the Toss and Invited Australia to bat first. Australia played extremely well and put a challenging score on the board.
Australia scored a total of 313 runs in 50 overs after loosing 5 wickets. From Australian side, Aaron Finch scored 93 out of 99 balls, Usman Khawaja scored 104 run out of 113 balls and Glenn Maxwell 47 runs out of 31 balls.
While chasing the target of 314 runs, India could manage to score only 281 runs after loosing all the wickets in 48.2 overs. The three initial wickets as Shekhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma & Ambati Rayudu were dismissed early and India struggled to chase the target. There was still hope when Virat Kohli was batting. MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav & Vijay Shankar provided a good partnership with Virat and Virat Kohli scored 123 runs out of 95 balls. MS Dhoni scored 26 out of 42 balls, Kedar Jadhav 26 out of 39 balls and Vijay Shankar 32 out of 30 balls. India lost the game but India still leads the series with 2-1 out of 5 ODI matches.
Kohli smashed his 41st ODI century with 16 fours and a six. Kohli is now 8 Century away from Sachin Tendulkar's record, who leads the charts with 49 century which is the highest centuries in the ODI history. He also became the fourth Indian captain after MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin & Saurav Ganguly to score 4000 ODI runs. He now has the most hundreds in India vs Australia ODI in India. The record was previously held by Sachin Tendulkar.
There is a bad news for Dhoni's fans. Dhoni is not playing for last 2 ODIs. He will be taking rest. It is likely that Dhoni has played his last match on Indian soil as India not having any home matches till October.
The next match will be played in Mohali on Sunday, 10th March at 1:30 PM Indian time.
